Inside Microsoft's Majorana 1

Sitting down with Zulfi Alam, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Quantum, on the world's first topological quantum chip.

By Dr Ben Miles

One of the best parts of the many hats I wear is the chance to speak with the people shaping the future of science and technology.

So when I had the opportunity to sit down with Zulfi Alam, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Quantum, to discuss their latest breakthrough, the Majorana 1, the world's first topological quantum chip, I knew it was a conversation I had to share.

This is a major milestone for quantum computing.

Unlike traditional qubits, which are incredibly fragile and prone to errors, Microsoft's approach harnesses the exotic properties of Majorana quasi-particles to create more stable, scalable qubits.

If successful, this could be the key to unlocking fault-tolerant quantum computing, bringing us closer to solving problems that are impossible for classical computers.

Thanks to all the team at Microsoft for making this happen.
